Jan. 28-Club Council Recap

Thank you to everyone who attended the Club Council meeting on January 28! We had a productive and informative session covering a variety of important topics like club finances, VIUSU grants, and the resources available to help organize successful events.

Here’s a quick recap of the meeting’s key highlights:

Guest Presentations:

• Cynthia Tang – Career Education & Development at VIU
  Cynthia provided a comprehensive overview of the career resources available to VIU students, including workshops on resumes, job fairs, and networking events. These resources are incredibly valuable for students looking to gain professional experience, so make sure to take advantage of them!

• Janelle Wilson & Sarah Mei Lyana – VIUSU Campaign Update
  Janelle and Sarah gave an update on VIUSU’s ongoing campaign advocating for student rights and representation at VIU. They discussed the importance of ensuring that students are fully represented in university decision-making processes for transparency and accountability, and that student concerns are addressed.

  The key issues at the heart of the campaign include:

  • Student Representation: greater student involvement in decision-making at VIU.

  • Sustainability of Student Services: preserve & enhance services that directly impact student success, such as mental health support, academic resources, and campus amenities.

  • Accountability & Transparency: clear and open communication from VIU regarding financial decisions and their impact on students.

VIUSU App and Communications:

• App Login & Account Management:
  We went over how to log in to the VIUSU app and manage your club account. This is a crucial tool for club execs, so make sure everyone is set up to use it efficiently!

  • Event Setup:
    We also covered how to set up and promote your club’s events through the app. This is a great way to boost your event visibility and increase engagement within the student body.

  • Profile & Exec Info:
    Remember to keep your club profile up to date in the app, and ensure that all your executive members are listed correctly. Keeping this info accurate helps your members stay connected.

• Club Discord Channel:
  A quick reminder to join the VIUSU Club Discord channel, which serves as an excellent platform for easy communication with your club members. This helps streamline your event planning and general club communication.

Announcements:

• Students' Union Services & Facilities Survey:
  We’ve been gathering feedback from club execs about the potential future of a new student building and other student services. The survey will soon be made available to all students, but if you have any final thoughts or suggestions, please reach out to Kurtis as soon as possible! Your input is critical as we shape the future of student services at VIU.
