We'll select 3 lucky winners at random to receive a prize! *Must be a current VIU student and be able to pick-up your prize from our office*
Tips for a successful plunge for first-timers:
Have some food before hand and go with a toque and comfy warm clothes over top of your swim suit. Bring thick warm socks, a big towel, and a reusable mug for coffee or hot chocolate after your plunge.
Don't wait too long to go in. You don't want to get too cold on the beach ahead of time!
Going in we recommend being as quiet as possible, it can help to adjust if your mind is calm. You should go in steadily but not running or jumping, but you can do it however you want. We recommend wearing your toque and keeping your head out of the water. You can also wear water shoes in, which protects your toes. Don't stay in longer than 1 minute if this is your first time.
Get out and wrap up right away/get dressed on the beach. Keeping your hat on and drinking a hot drink afterwards will go a long way.
*Disclaimer: Do not participate in this challenge if you have an underlying medical condition or if this goes against advice from your doctor. Cold water immersion sends your body into the shock response cycle and can be dangerous for those with heart conditions and other health issues. Do your own research to learn the related health risks and benefits!
