The global theme for this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which will run from 25 November to 10 December 2021, is “Orange the world: End violence against women now!”
As such, the Canadian Federation of University Women Nanaimo, with local feminist partner organizations are lighting the Nanaimo Bastion Orange… or “Oranging the Bastion”. This gathering is open to any interested parties and VIU students are welcome to attend. VIUSU Women Students’ Representative Cole Reinbold will be attending to represent VIU students at the light up.
The 16 Days of Activism against violence against women and girls is an international campaign that takes place each year. It commences on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, until 10 December, Human Rights Day. It was originated by activists at the first Women's Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and this year marks its 30th anniversary. The 16 days is used as an organizing strategy by individuals, institutions and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
