On National Truth and Reconciliation Day, we invite you to join us in honouring the survivors of the residential school system, their families, and all those affected by the generational impacts of these injustices. This day serves as a time for reflection, education, and listening as we work towards meaningful reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
Meet at the quad in front of the bookstore for 9am for a march to the theatre to begin our commemoration. You’ll hear from elders and members of the VIU community as we remember and learn together. Soup and bannock will be served in the theatre lobby starting at noon.
Through the power of this gathering, we will reflect on the history of residential schools and acknowledge the strength and resilience of Indigenous communities. This is an opportunity for all of us to listen, learn, and stand in solidarity, recognizing the steps we must take toward healing and reconciliation. Let us honour the past while committing to a future built on understanding, respect, and meaningful change.
