Food for Thought

  • VIU Students' Union - Building 193 900 Fifth Street Nanaimo, BC, V9R 5S5 Canada (map)

This event is our first in a new dinner and discussion series that will bring students and experts together to learn and discuss ideas, share perspectives, and build connections. The event will start with a dinner catered by COCO Cafe and then lead into a guided learning discussion on the topic of facilitating group meetings with expert community facilitators Mitch Miyagawa and Myriam Verzat (bios below).

Facilitating is helping groups of people work, live and be together to meet needs, follow dreams, and achieve goals. It is an essential leadership skill - whether you’re living in a shared house, working with a team, producing an event, or creating a movement.

Facilitation literally means “making things easy.” There are techniques to learn, but more importantly it’s an art and a mindset of creating inviting and safe spaces that encourage growth and interconnection.

In this event you’ll:

  • Learn about the art of facilitation and “meta-skills” drawing from eclectic perspectives such as non-violent communication and the Tao Te Ching

  • Experience group facilitation in fun and engaging ways from experienced facilitators and event producers

  • Gain more confidence in your own facilitation abilities

Space is limited and registration is first come first served. RSVP here.
