Join us for our second workshop in the Decolonize Your Mindset series, focusing on sustainability from an Indigenous perspective. Learn about how Indigenous communities view natural resources as life sources and the importance of maintaining a harmonious relationship with the land. Joined by Elder Gary Manson and Sherry Mattice nee McCarthy. Uncle Gary was born on the mouth of the Snuneymuxw River in 1948. He is a survivor of Residential School and is deeply connected to culture and land.
Sherry Mattice nee McCarthy works as an Indigenous Education Navigator here at VIU. She is from the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nation on her mother's side, and on her father's side, she is from Heshquiat. Sherry is working towards finishing her Doctor of Business Administration in Leadership, specializing in Indigenous entrepreneurial success.
