Students’ Union Elections
Every year the Students’ Union holds elections for the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors has 23 positions representing campuses, faculties, and general membership. Elections are held every spring for each of the positions.
The Students’ Union Election Nominations are now open, and you have the opportunity to run for key positions that will shape the future of our community—get involved and make your voice heard!
Successful candidates will have terms of office from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026.
Election Timeline
Nomination Period: Open now until January 27 at 4:00pm
Campaign Period: 9:00AM, February 11 until 11:59 PM, February 25
Online Voting: 9:00AM, February 26 until 4:00PM, February 28
*Students will receive an online voting link to their email
Board of Directors Positions & Profiles
Chairperson
Skill Profile: approachable, communicator, team builder, organized, gsuite experience
Responsibilities: chair meetings, be a spokesperson, policy and governance, strategic planning, work at events and campaign activities
Commitment: 60-80 hours per month, paid, willingness and ability to devote time and energy to the role
Director of Internal Relations
Skill Profile: supportive, detail oriented, responsive, technological, project management
Responsibilities: manage club system, active engagement with campus leaders, oversee programs, services and financial oversight, help with board member training, regional campuses engagement
Commitment: 60-80 hours per month, paid, willingness and ability to devote time and energy to the role
Director of Events
Skill Profile: people person, innovative, collaborative, outgoing, energetic
Responsibilities: Oversee all events of the Students' Union, coordinate sponsorships, campus & community engagement, manage volunteers, work with campus & community partners.
Commitment: 60-80 hours per month, paid, willingness and ability to devote time and energy to the role
Indigenous Students' Representative
Skill Profile: innovative, analytical, empathetic
Responsibilities: keep board informed of issues regarding aboriginal peoples, assist with campaigns, promote respect for culture among students and represent aboriginal students in decision making
Commitment: 60-80 hours per month, paid, willingness and ability to devote time and energy to the role
Director of External Relations
Skill Profile: critical thinker, interpersonal relations, social justice focused
Responsibilities: work on education and social justice campaigns, inform board of off campus issues relating to students, be a spokesperson
Commitment: 60-80 hours per month, paid, willingness and ability to devote time and energy to the role
Women Students' Representative
Skill Profile: relationship builder, proactive, community minded
Responsibilities: present feminist viewpoint, keep board informed about issues on campus related to gender and human rights, assist with campaigns, promote women's issues among students and represent women in decision making
Commitment: 60-80 hours per month, paid, willingness and ability to devote time and energy to the role
International Student Representative (2 positions)
Skill Profile: Approachable, empathetic, and passionate about supporting international students
Responsibilities: Advocate for the needs and concerns of international students, assist with campaigns and events, represent international students at meetings and on campus committees.
Commitment: 10-20 hours per month, paid, willingness and ability to devote time and energy to the role
Graduate Student Representative (2 positions)
Skill Profile: Approachable, solution-oriented, and dedicated to improving the graduate student experience
Responsibilities: Advocate for the needs of graduate students, assist with campaigns and events, represent grad students on campus committees, and contribute to decisions that affect graduate-level programs and initiatives.
Commitment: 10-20 hours per month, paid, willingness and ability to devote time and energy to the role
Regional Campus Representatives ( 2 positions: Cowichan & tiwšɛmawtxʷ [Powell River])
Skill Profile: Approachable, community-oriented, and committed to enhancing student life
Responsibilities: Assist with campaigns and events, represent students on regional campuses, collaborate with campus committees, and advocate for decisions that impact students
Commitment: 10-20 hours per month, paid, with the willingness and ability to dedicate time and energy to the role
Faculty Representative (8 positions)
Skill Profile: Approachable, problem solver, and committed to the student experience
Responsibilities: assists with campaigns and events, represent students within your faculty, participate in campus committees and help to make decisions that affect students
Commitment: 10-20 hours per month, paid, willingness and ability to devote time and energy to the role
Director at Large (5 seats)
Skill Profile: intentional learner, social skills, engaged
Responsibilities: assists with campaigns and events, represent students generally, participate in campus committees and help to make decisions that affect students

Responsibilities: read the agendas, minutes and documents before monthly meetings, participate, represent needs of students
Committment: varies per position
