clubs + course unions

Clubs are integral to the campus life of a university, and are deeply involved in every aspect of student life and service to our communities. Links to join clubs are in the clubs area of the VIUSU app. The work of clubs and course unions is supported by VIUSU’s Director of Internal Relations.

support for clubs

The Students’ Union supports the operations of clubs and course unions at VIU in many ways. From annual funding for each club, to equipment rentals and room bookings, to support for club governance, learning opportunities, and promotion and fundraising; we help student leaders to get the most out of their experience as a club executive. Clubs are organized into a few main categories including general interest, activist, partisan, religious, and course union.

how to join a club

All clubs have a simple online signup form. These can be accessed in the club’s profile on the VIUSU app, by emailing the club, and often via their social media accounts. Most clubs do not have a membership fee, and membership lapses automatically after two years (so make sure to re-join your club if it has been a while)!

how to start a club

Starting a club is very straightforward, you just need to have an idea that is unique (no duplicate clubs) and submit a request. The Director of Internal Relations will then send an email to you with all the information you need to get started, as well as a gsuite email address for your club to use. General Interest, Partisan, Religious, and Activist clubs will require a minimum of 10 members. Course Unions require 30 members, the majority of whom should come from the respective program.
