VIUSU Grant Program Awards First Three Deserving Recipients
VIUSU has recently awarded its first ever grant funds to three deserving recipients. The VIUSU Grant Program was established in the Spring Semester of 2023 to support students' academic and professional development by providing financial assistance. The Students’ Union saw a need to support educational activities such as attending conferences or hosting initiatives and events, and so the grant program was developed to fill these gaps.
Since the program launched in January it has received 28 applications, supporting 200 students with over $14,000, awarding the first grants to Kristen Bushell, Nova Heartland, and Emma Hender, all of whom have demonstrated their dedication to continue learning and gaining new experiences.
Kristen Bushell, a student in the Faculty of Health and Human Services, was awarded a grant of $500 to attend the Pacific Dental Conference 2023. Nova Heartland, a student in the Faculty of Education, was awarded a grant of $620 to host a Scholarly Social for the Masters of Education students. Emma Hender, a student in the Faculty of Political Science, was awarded a grant of $275 to attend IMPAC 5, a global forum that brings together ocean conservation professionals and high-level officials to inform, inspire, and act on marine protected areas.
The VIUSU Grant Program is an excellent resource for students who are seeking to enhance their academic and professional development. By providing financial assistance for educational activities, conference attendance, and club events, the Students’ Union is able to help create a more engaged student body at VIU. The success of the program's first ever grant payouts demonstrates the program's commitment to supporting students' growth and development.
If you are a student at VIU, consider applying for the VIUSU Grant Program to support your educational and professional goals. The program provides funding for a variety of activities, including attending conferences, hosting events, and leading initiatives. Congratulations to Kristen, Nova, Emma and all other successful applicants on their well-deserved funding!
