The Students' Union annually contributes $5,000 that is matched by the University to provide $10,000 in emergency aid funds for Vancouver Island University students.

Emergency Aid funding is distributed to students on each campus by the Financial Aid Department and is provided on a needs basis.

Since the inception of the Vancouver Island University Foundation (the charitable wing of Vancouver Island University) the Vancouver Island University Students' Union has maintained a place in the top 4 donor organisations to the foundation.

Annually, the Vancouver Island University Students' Union sets aside money in an endowment fund. The interest created from this fund is used to provide grants and awards that assist students to pay the high cost of their education.

The Students' Union provides $6,000 in emergency vouchers each year. The vouchers are in the form of gift certificates to Quality Foods and provide much needed food and supplies to students who are in severe financial need. This program is administered by the Financial Aid office at each campus and is in partnership with Quality Foods.

Annually, the Students' Union provides over $4000 for bursaries and awards. The Students' Union bursaries and awards are distributed by the Financial Aid Department upon the recommendation of the Scholarship and Bursary Committee.
