Serving Members


If you are interested in serving the student body as a whole, running for elected office on the board of the Vancouver Island University Students’ Union is one avenue you may be interested in. There is a wide range of position available to members and each of which entails a variety of different duties.

There are up to 23 different positions available at the Students' Union. Elections occur in the fall for Program and Campus Representatives and in the spring for Executives and Constituency Representatives (portfolio representatives) and the Directors At-Large.

Each election is overseen by an Electoral Committee made up of present Board members, students and staff. The Electoral Committee is responsible for executing each election as per the rules established the bylaws and Electoral Policy.

Membership has benefits

Independent, democratically run, student organizations can be found at almost every public university and college in the country. It goes without saying that student organisations serve as an integral part of a students experience at university or college and through our organisations students have successfully influenced the decision institutions and government. As a member of the Vancouver Island University Students’ Union it is important that you take advantage of the benefits of membership.

Through your use of the services of the Vancouver Island University Students you will save money and increase the ability of your students’ union to organise new or enhanced services. Through participation in our campaigns you can work with 10 000 students at VIU, 150 000 students across the province and over 500 000 students across the country to improve the quality and affordability of your education.

Volunteering for events and campaigns
